Preparing a Book about AlUla’s Plants and Their Uses Throughout History
Project Description:
The book project aims to discover the relationship between the people of AlUla and its amazing plants adapted to the environment, a relationship that, contributed to the sustainability of human society in AlUla and led to its prosperity. This book consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with conducted archaeological research, to discover how plants have been used for thousands of years. The second chapter presents plants used in traditional medicine. The third chapter shows dyes, handicrafts, and other uses of plants, while the fourth chapter presents edible AlUla plants.

The scientific material used in authoring this book was collected from four main sources: archaeological surveys, a literary survey of previous studies, field visits, discussion panels, and interviews with those experienced and familiar with the uses of wild plants from the people of AlUla. Major tasks of the project included authoring, editing, designing, and printing works.Conducting nine hundred demonstration tours and following up with farmers in all regions of the Kingdom to ensure obtaining a safe final product.
Providing technical support to update the geographical database of crop composition, including local varieties in all regions of the Kingdom.
Holding three regional workshops to qualify technical cadres for 30 trainees, in co-operation with international centers for specialized crop patterns.

The book was successfully written, designed, and printed, and its Arabic and English versions were delivered to the Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate.
