A project entitled: Study and Implementation of the Crop Pattern Work Plan in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia/2
Project Description:
The project aimed to maximize the benefit of the comparative agricultural advantage in all regions of the Kingdom (13 regions) through maximum exploitation of each region’s resources and available agricultural potential to develop strategies for cropping patterns to achieve the best agriculture practices, maximize optimal production per unit area and water, improve farmers’ income, and sustain production by introducing promising new crops within crop pattern systems and thus contribute to achieving food security in the Kingdom.

Activities:
- During its implementation period, the project included activities at the level of all regions of the Kingdom, including the following:
- Implementing the crop composition plan for (4) primary crops for each region, with a total number of (52) crops for all Saudi Arabia regions.
- Preparing forty viewing fields in the 13 Regions, to apply the crop pattern.
- Improving the quality of promising new crops (Egyptian Clover, Quinoa, Italian Raygrass, Taif Rose, Coffee, and Cashew) through specialized global partnerships for targeted crops (Riyadh region, Eastern region, Al-Jouf region, Makkah region, Jazan region).
- Holding thirteen meetings for technicians and experts, in crop patterns fields, and distinguished farmers who have adopted new crops.
- Holding eighteen seminars to qualify and train technical personnel on the topics and importance of crop patterns in the regions of the Kingdom and holding twenty-six capacity-building meetings in all Regions of the kingdom for farmers and leaders and governorates affiliated with (40) farmers in every encounter.
- Conducting nine hundred demonstration tours and following up with farmers in all regions of the Kingdom to ensure obtaining a safe final product.
- Providing technical support to update the geographical database of crop composition, including local varieties in all regions of the Kingdom.
- Holding three regional workshops to qualify technical cadres for 30 trainees, in co-operation with international centers for specialized crop patterns.
